Blowing Bubbles is a multimedia project centred on HIV and AIDS conceived and produced by Cassero, the Gay and Lesbian Centre in Bologna.
www.blowingbubbles.it is the natural evolution of ten years of research and continuous programming of short movies and other multimedia projects linked to prevention, new therapies and support of people living with HIV.
This international short film contest was created in 1991 to create a visible outlet for the doubts, the hopes, the sorrow and the need for support experienced by people with HIV during those years in which the new therapies were still to be made available and the information was often confused and contradictory. BB has been touring Italy for years as an itinerant exhibition of short movies.
Each year tens of VHS tapes, accompanied by hundreds of printed catalogues, have shown the different approaches to the issues of HIV/AIDS in offices, community cinemas, libraries, AIDS groups headquarters, hospitals, museums and gay and lesbian associations, counseling centres, cineclubs and film festivals. Through the years, these videos have shown a diversified collection of individual voices, each of them unique for imagery, format and technique.
Starting from this year, Blowing Bubbles will become a media project open to the contributions of anyone wanting to share their experience of how HIV and AIDS are still affecting the lives of many people, offering an on line archive of the memories of our times. Memories that are a common heritage, and that should be accessible to as many people as possible. We are waiting for your contribution.

All the short movies featured in the past editions of Blowing Bubbles are filed at Centro di Cocumentazione il Cassero (Via Don Minzoni 18, Bologna, www.cassero.it/doc), and are available for consultation together with their scripts both in their original languages and in an Italian translation.
